The hand-set type was printed on beautiful Antique Laid paper and hand-sewn into French-fold soft marbled wrappers. Pasted-on title label on front cover. A Note on the printing of The Chaste Planet laid in. This copy is numbered 94 of 300 copies in this edition and is SIGNED by author John Updike directly on the limitation page; Unlike most of Updike's work, this is a story with a futuristic theme, the action taking place on the pleasant little planet of Minerva, which exists within the "semi-liquid immensity of Jupiter." As an adolescent, Updike enjoyed reading the genre and was quite pleased to be considered, however slightly, a writer of science fiction. Written in 1975, published in The New Yorker, and reprinted in the book Best SF: 75; 8vo ; Signed by Author.
