From 1757 to 1773, he gave with P.J. MACQUER a series of courses in chemistry and pharmacy. The present work is the author's extensive textbook of chemistry. It is characterized by Partington as being "clear, detailed and practical" in its treatment of the subject and is one of the last major textbooks to be based on the phlogiston theory".
