Vellum lightly spotted, some discolouration to spine, label chipped, small touches of worming just to the hinges. Ownership inscriptions to title-page of Fr. Heuglin of Tübingen dated 1817, C. Barth dated 1818, and a prize inscription to J. Mästlin signed by Theodorus Cellarius and dated 1664; also an illegible inscription to flyleaf and a scattering of marginal annotations to the text. The second edition of the Greek text of Herodotus (following the Aldine first of 1502), and the first to be printed outside Italy. This copy appears to have been given to an exceptional pupil by Theodor Cellarius (1627-1677), professor of Greek at Tübingen, and remained in that city for at least another century and a half.
