Hardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Good. 1st Edition. Signed and dated three times and inscribed by Vladimir Tretchikoff to Peggy Roscoe, owner of "Crawfish Seller" an original oil painting reproduced in the book by way of a colour raised plate, one of twelve in all. The relevant plate, for which her permission is acknowledged in the description, is signed and inscribed on the mount: " To Peggy/ Until we meet again/ V. Tretchikoff/ 20-12-52/ S.A." This was probably done when she bought the painting. Tretchikoff has also signed and dated the inside front cover with the same date. The first raised plate of "Mother and Child" is also signed and dated " V. Tretchikoff/ 20-11-52". Book is in near fine clean condition in gilt and thick marbled card with a very good dust jacket Dust jacket is a wrap around folder cover, which is missing the blank front flap but has gilt title and raised plate illustration on front and fully intact, with the further raised plate in excellent condition on the front. Peggy Roscoe ( Mrs. S.M. Roscoe) lived near Hartley, Southern Rhodesia ( now Chegutu, Zimbabwe ), but socialised with Tretchikoff on numerous occasions, including canasta sessions with him and his wife at their splendid mansion in Bishopscourt, Cape Town. Her iconic painting, which she bought prior to 1952, was later exhibited in Durban with her permission in 1959, and became one of the subjects of the artist's many and profuse lithographic reproductions, all iconic monuments to mid century "kitsch". This price represents less than $25 per print, and one of them is SIGNED! Prints not sold separately. Inscribed by Author(s).
