Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This witty, satirical look at the state of 19th-century British economy and society offers a scathing critique of the extremes of both wealth and poverty in the Victorian period. The author uses humor, irony, and a nod to popular culture to highlight the tendency for greed and corruption to creep into all levels of society, from the highest echelons of government down to everyday street hustlers. Figures for the Million not only serves as a historical snapshot of 19th-century Britain, but provides timeless insights into the many ways people leverage their positions for financial gain, as well as the precarious and exploitative nature of being poor in a time of vast wealth. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
