Als größeres Werk ist von ihm nur das "Compendium, der allgemeinen und speziellen pathologischen Anatomie" (Wien 1855) erschienen. Ein sauberes und klares Lehrbuch, aus dem seine Schüler in Krakau, Graz und Wien lernen konnten. Denn nach einem Jahr als Anatomielehrer in Olmütz wurde er 1855 nach Krakau berufen. Dort hat er ebensowie nach 1863 in Graz das pathologisch-anatomische Museum mit viel Liebe und Fleiß eingerichtet. An die 2000 makro- und 1000 mikroskopische Präparate hat sein Nachfolger Hanns Kundrat von ihm in Graz übernommen. Der jungen Grazer Fakultät war Heschl eine ebenso verläßliche Stütze, wie er dies in der Wiener Fakultät und im Obersten Sanitätsrat gewesen ist.
