Ajouter au panierEtat : Fine. First edition. First edition, one of 330 copies. Signed by V.S. Naipaul on the limitation page at rear. [vi], 42, [1] pp. Bound in publisher's red cloth stamped in black, printed on watermarked Arches paper. Fine condition with very light wear to covers. A beautiful copy of the first and only edition of Naipaul's account of visiting the Congo. Naipaul's novel A Bend in the River, set in an unnamed African country after its independence, had been published the previous year and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. The publishers, Ralph Sylvester and Stathis Orphanos, produced twenty-five fine press signed editions of short works by major writers and won praise for their exquisite execution. Of the 330 copies of this book, three hundred were to be numbered, twenty-six lettered, and four printed with the name of the recipient. The space left for the number on this copy has been left blank.
