Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very Good - See Description. Alexander Williams (illustrateur). Presumed First Edition. 1912. Presumed first edition. 64pp. and 12 colour plates. This is a volume in the publisher's 'Beautiful Ireland' series, a companion to the 'Beautiful England' series. It describes in words and pictures the province of Connaught, in the west of Ireland. The book is bound in the original brown paper covered boards with green titling on the spine and front board and a colour illustration onlaid to the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some light soiling to the boards. There is light bumping to the bottom corners and slightly heavier bumping to the spine ends and some wear to the paper covering the spine edges. There is a small dark patch near the bottom of the spine with small tape stains either side, probably where a small label has been removed. The contents are tight and clean with some scattered light foxing, generally on the top and/or fore margin of some of the pages. There are traces of removed labels on the front free and fixed endpapers, indicating that this copy may have been a from a school or similar library. There are no other such indications within the book.

Connaught-or Connacht, as it is more properly spelt and spoken-is geographically the best-marked among the provinces of Ireland; and, as usual, other discriminations follow. I would not say that it is of all provinces the most Irish; nobody has better rights to stand for Ireland than the "boys of Wexford", and at a Wexford fair or meeting you will see scores of big farmers the very picture of Mr. Punch's John Bull, only not so round about the abdomen.
