Pages are moderately tanned at the edges, with notable foxing. Binding has remained firm. Inscription to front endpaper. Foxing more prominent to text block edges, endpapers and pastedowns. Boards have slight shelf wear with bumping to corners. Spine ends are a little crushed with light tanning. Slight forward lean to text block. Boards are slightly bowed.

First edition hardback in dustwrapper. VG+ in original publisher's light purple cloth with white lettering ( very slightly rubbed on spine) and front. Edges dusty, feint foxing to endpapers,otherwise clean and bright internally, with superb Ravilious b/w illustrations in text. in rare dustwrapper with superb vignette to front. Overall VG showing some rubbing to spine and edges, some dustiness to covers. minor chipping and rubbing to corners, small tears to spine edges. Nevertheless a very pleasing example of this scarce Ravilious item. The dustwrapper is housed in protective removable sleeve. WPH 15425.

Slight fading to the jacket spine with a light light edge wear, some spotting to the front and rear endpapers and the fore edge, a very good copy overall.
