Written entirely by Gilman, The Forerunner featured serialized novels, short fiction, essays, articles, and verse; and was published by her with the aim of stirring one to action "upon the Progress of Women". This volume contains the first appearance of two feminist novels: *The Crux*, and *Moving the Mountain*: both serialized and complete in twelve issues (January-December, 1911). A scarce copy in original boards. According to information provided by Gilman's estate, less than 200 hardcover copies of each volume of the Forerunner were printed.
