Contemporary full calf with raised bands five comparttments on the spine, with four decorated with gilt ornamentation, one compartment with a black leather label bearing the title and author in gilt, with gilt ruled edges. Gilt decorated board edges and dentelles. viii, 528 pages, The book has seventeen folding maps which includes the frontispiece map of the world. 5.5 X 8.5 inches. The original leather has some wear at the corners and spine ends, and some small patches of wear and scuffs here and there, overall quite a sound binding. Inner hinges are sound and solid, with no spltting or opening up along the endpapers.There is some foxing through most of the book, some pages more affected than others.
