    Hardcover. Etat : Poor - Cash. Very Heavy wear to cover, corners and edges, exposes the boards. Title fading on the front cover, title was done in gold gilt. Has soiling on the front cover, fading to the edges, rubbing and fraying to spine. Has soiling to cover and pages, with creases. There is a crack on the inside of front cover, showing the webbing on the top edge. FFEP has been torn out, leaving a remnant. There is a tear on the bottom of the title page near the spine. Soiling to pages and some notations in the margins. Pages 107 & 108 have been ripped out, and only half of page 109 remains. Page 73-74 has a tear on the bottom corner. Pages 75-86 have chipping to the pages, some pages are coming loose from the spine, pages 83-84 has a tear on the bottom part of the page. You can see the webbing on the spine on the inside of the back cover. Stock photos may not look exactly like the book.

Printed by Deseret University in Salt Lake City, this 1868 edition of The Deseret Second Alphabet Reader was intended for classroom use and contains basic reading material set entirely in the Deseret alphabet. A small English pronunciation guide follows each line to help the reader identify the phonetic sounds. The book includes 13 illustrations meant to complement simple exercises. Its production was part of a push by Brigham Young to promote a unique phonetic script. First editions in the original cloth binding remain uncommon. Very Good condition. Bound in illustrated hardcover boards, with mild rubbing and spots of insect damage to the spine. Inner hinges show minor separation, but binding holds secure. Interior clean and complete, with consistent aging and strong paper quality throughout. Handwritten inscription on front flyleaf cryptically reads: To E.H.G, March 12 1943, My sentiments are expressed on page 60. Duodecimo (12mo), single volume.
