This work is the definitive publication of the excavations at Tepe Hissar by Dr. Erich F. Schmidt, Field Director. From 1931-1933, The University Museum sponsored Erich Schmidt's excavations and survey at Tepe Hissar and sites around the city Damghan, both in Northwestern Iran, near the Caspian sea. These sites were unique because they were the first American excavations in Iran, but more particuarly because of the long time span represented in the archaeological record. Remains from the Bronze Age to the Islamic era were collected, but Schmidt focused his investigation on the Bronze Age and Sassanian eras. Upper and lower front corners bumped, however not affecting pages throughout. Ex-library copy, with sticker at upper front joint and tail of spine; bookplate on inside of front cover, pocket at rear, and stamp at top and bottom paper edges. Binding in overall good, interior in very good condition.

Ajouter au panierHardbound. Etat : Near fine. First Edition. Publications of the Iranian Section of the University Museum. Record of archaeological excavations at Tepe Hissar (Castle Hill), Iran, from 1931 to 1933. The Tepe Hissar site, some 360 km east of Teheran on the Iranian Plateau, has provided evidence of occupation from about 3900 to 1900 BCE. Excavations at the site have yielded a trove of artifacts from that era, including painted pottery, metal vessels, weapons, tools and jewelry, precious stones, figurines and many other lithic objects, all of which are illustrated and carefully described in this report. The ancient settlement appears to have been an important waypoint in the trade that occurred between Mesopotamia and centers in Central Asia to the west. Former owner's stamp on FFEP, some browning of endpapers, particularly at the hinge. Boards and binding otherwise excellent and all internal pages pristine. xxi, 478 pp., 197 maps (10 of which are large fold-out), plans and drawings, 2 col. and 77 b&w full page plates, index. (Heavy and oversize book - orders outside of Canada may require additional postage.) Size: 31 x 23 cm.
