Overall, an attractive copy. In Fear Strikes Out, Piersall relates his journey to becoming a professional baseball player and his highly publicized mental health issues. Following a series of violent and erratic incidents in 1952, including a fist fight with Billy Martin, Piersall was admitted to Westborough State Hospital and later diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Piersall went on to have a successful career, earning two all-star selections (1954, 1956), and two Gold Glove awards (1958, 1961). Fear Strikes Out was adapted into a film in 1957, starring Anthony Perkins (of Psycho fame) as Piersall and Karl Malden as his father. Hal Lebowitz (1916-2005) was a longtime Cleveland sportswriter and newspaper editor. He was the president of the Baseball Writers Association of America in 1966 and was awarded the prestigious J. G. Taylor Spink Award in 1999. Signed.
