The purpose of this book is twofold: First, it is intended to popularize finger print identification, for those who wish to explore the science merely as an avocation, or pastime knowledge. Second, to furnish a manual or text for the student who is ambitious enough to become a finger print expert or professional. An earnest effort has been made to set forth the rather intricate principles of finger print classification in language that can be understood by anyone. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some light soiling to the boards. The top corners and spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth at the spine ends. There is a small hole in the cloth near the bottom of the front spine edge. The contents are tight and clean with age-browning around the page margins. There are two patches of thinning to the front free endpaper where a sticker or label has probably been removed.
