When sent on a mission to help bring Vichy held Syria and Lebanon to the Allied side by Churchill Spears quickly found himself at war not only with the Germans and the Vichy French but also with the Free French and the Foreign Office! Spears rapidly became disinchanted by the man he helped to raise to leader of the Free French, De Gaulle and his caustic style of writing spares no-one from his views of their performance. The book was written soon after the war but held from publishing until 1977 due to the sensibilities of those mentioned until the authors' own death. Includes 14*b/w photographs. 311pp. Book in very good condition, but the DJ is faded to the spine, has a nick and a little lifting of the surface plastic to upper edge and is roughly price-clipped.
