Hardback. Etat : Good. This lively, beautifully written biography (Kirkus Reviews) of the famous Post-Impressionist artist who painted Starry Night and many other masterpieces is fascinating reading (School Library Journal, Starred Review). Vincent Van Gogh--one of the nineteenth century's most brilliant artist--will forever be remembered as the Dutchman who pioneered new techniques and styles and who, in a fit of passion, cut off his own ear. Whether painting a portrait, landscape, or still life, van Gogh sought to capture the vibrant spirit of his subject. Still, fame eluded him. This lack of recognition over a career spanning a mere decade (from ages twenty-seven to thirty-seven) fueled his lifelong self-doubt and bitter disappointments. Today, however, van Gogh's paintings are recognized as masterpieces, and the tormented Dutchman stands as a giant among artists. Vincent Van Gogh: Portrait of An Artist has been selected as a Common Core State Standards Text Exemplar (Grades 6-8, Historical/Social Studies) in Appendix B. It features a sixteen-page insert with family photographs and full-color painting reproductions and includes a glossary of artists and terms, a biographical time line, notes, a bibliography, and locations of museums that display Van Gogh's work. Paperback. Etat : Very Good. One of the great forerunners of 20th century painting This richly illustrated and expert study follows the artist from the early gloom-laden paintings in which he captured the misery of peasants and workers in his homeland, through his bright and colourful Parisian period, to the work of his final years, spent under a southern sun in Arles. Here, at last, he found the light that produced the unmistakable Van Gogh style. At Arles, Saint-R my and Auvers-sur-Oise, in the feverish burst of creative energy that marked his last two-and-a-half years, he produced the 465 paintings on which his immortality rests. Van Gogh craved recognition during his lifetime but was denied it until after his self-inflicted death. Today he is universally seen as one of the great forerunners of painting of the 20th century, and one of the tragic masters of art. About the Series: Each book in TASCHEN's Basic Art series features: a detailed chronological summary of the life and oeuvre of the artist, covering his or her cultural and historical importance a concise biography approximately 100 illustrations with explanatory captions.…

Paperback. Etat : Good. Swirling, curling brushstrokes. Vivid colors. Thick layers of paint. These are the hallmarks of a painting by Vincent van Gogh, whose work his fellow artist Paul C zanne once called that of a madman. But Van Gogh and the Post-Impressionists for Kids moves beyond the image of the mad pauper to reveal a complex young man who loved nature and reading, spoke four languages, and enjoyed a successful career as a gallery salesman before embarking on studies as a minister and, finally, finding his calling as an artist. Kids journey from the Netherlands to Paris to southern France as they learn about van Gogh's friendships with four other like-minded painters who admired but were determined to depart from Impressionism: Paul Gauguin, Paul Signac, mile Bernard, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Aspiring artists and history buffs learn not only how these Post-Impressionists' daring shapes, colors, and techniques distinguished their work from what was painted before but also how the men helped one another and whether or not they always got along. Twenty-one creative projects bring history and art to life. Readers will create a Starry Night peep box, make a Pointillist sailboat (that can really sail ), craft a Japanese fold-out album, and much more. The text includes a time line, glossary, and reading list for further study.…

Hardback. Etat : Very Good. This book provides a comprehensive overview of active anti-roll bar systems on heavy vehicles as one of the most effective solutions for improving the roll stability of these vehicles. Due to the characteristics of these vehicles with heavy loads and high center of gravity, the possibility of roll instability occurs frequently and causes serious consequences for human life, vehicles, and traffic infrastructure. The book gives readers an in-depth survey of the roll instability characteristics of heavy vehicles such as single-unit trucks with rigid and flexible frames, and tractor semi-trailers. It then introduces an active anti-roll bar system, the electro-hydraulic actuators which use control methods such as LQR optimal and H∞ robust controller design. This work introduces a new control method, which is a combination of robust control with the linear parameter varying system (H∞/LPV). The validation of the new hybrid method is carried out using the nonlinear truck model from the TruckSim(R) software to assess the roll stability of heavy vehicles in order to limit the rollover accident. A number of examples are provided to illustrate the research results, which helps the readers have a practical and easy approach that can be applied to other active anti-roll bar systems for most forms of transport vehicles in general. This book caters to academics and practitioners who are interested in active anti-roll bar systems for the typical heavy vehicle available worldwide.…
