Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. First Edition. Hilton, James (and Barbara Burnham). GOOD-BYE MR. CHIPS: a Play in Three acts. Based upon the novel of the same name by James Hilton London: Hodder & Stoughton, (1938). First Edition. A FINE copy (touch of fading to the fore-edge of the upper board) in a NEAR FINE original priced dust jacket (a trifle age-toned -- as all copies we've seen over the years). Nice example with plenty of eye appeal. This play version of Goodbye, Mr. Chips was first presented in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre on September 23, 1938. The cast included Leslie Banks (as Mr. Chips) and Constance Cummings (as Kathie), Nigel Stock, Charles Quartermaine and Wilfred Babbage. A West End triumph, its success helped lead up to the famous film version in 1939. Previous owner has penciled light checks beside the cast list. Hard to find a better copy of this attractive publication.

Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. First edition. Slightly cocked, near fine in very good dustwrapper with some soiling and the publisher's later reduced price label on the spine. Hilton's own adaptation of his novel, which was the basis for two films: the 1939 Sam Wood-directed version with Robert Donat (who beat out Clark Gable, Henry Fonda, and others for the Best Actor Oscar in what was probably Hollywood's best year ever), Greer Garson, and Paul Henreid and the 1969 remake directed by Herbert Ross with Peter O'Toole, Petula Clark, and Michael Redgrave. A very nice copy, and quite uncommon.
