Gremlins is a1984 video game developed and published by Atari for the Atari 2600system. It is a tie-in to the 1984 film Gremlins. Atari releasedanother, substantially different game based on the film for the Atari5200. Gremlins, directed by Joe Dante, was the center of a majormerchandising push in the months surrounding its release. Atarideveloped video game tie-ins for both of its contemporary consoles, theAtari 2600 and the Atari 5200. Though both were produced by the samecompany and were based on the same film, differences in the two consolesresulted in two considerably different games. Atari intended to releaseboth along with the film in 1984, but the company stopped shipment ofall its games after its reorganization that year. Atari first previewedthe 2600 version of the game at the 1984 Consumer Electronics Show inChicago; it was released in limited numbers later that year, and becamemoderately rare.
