Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Good. Handbook of Cane Sugar Engineering by Emile Hugot, Translated by G. H. Jenkins, M. Sc. App, was published by Elsevier Publishing Company, Amsterdam, in 1964. Not an ex-library copy, this 872-page, 7" X 9 3/4", 50-year-old offering is in VG/G- condition. The book, at age 50, is still in very firm, very sound physical shape from cover to cover. There is the name and address of a previous owner, printed in smallish, black caps, near the upper-right corner of the front paste down page. There are(and I'm not sure of their original cause) eight light brownish, vertical scotch tape stains, ranging in length from 2-2 1/2"--two on each of the four end papers. The dust jacket, in just G- condition, has rather paid the price for doing such an admirable job of protecting/preserving its still quite crisp occupant. An 1 1/2" X 1 3/4" roughly rectangular-shaped piece is missing from the bottom of the jacket's spine. Somewhat noticeable, spotty shelf wear is seen along the top and bottom edges of both front and back jacket sections, as well as definitely more so at the four points where inside jacket flaps make their inward folds. From front inside flap, ".The most important feature of [this offering] is that it has been especially written for the operating engineer and technologist and that it offers a wealth of know-how about the whole field of cane-sugar engineering. The reader is given a complete description of the different processes presently in use, with clear descriptions of the apparatus used and of the principles underlying their construction." This book was originally published in French, in 1950, by Maison Dunod of Paris. It was first published in English by Elsevier in 1960. Our offering, then, would be the Completely Revised Translation/First Reprint of 1964. This highly detailed text is wonderfully complemented by 458 black and white Illustrations and some 222 Tables and Graphs. It is presented in 48 chapters, offering such titles as "Delivery, Unloading, and Handling of Cane", "Crushers", "Pressures in Milling", "Purification of Juice", "Defecation", "Evaporation" (presenting over two dozen sub-topics, such as Entrainment, Incrustations, Special Multiple Effects, etc.), "Centrifugal Separation", and "Pumps", along with so many, many more. Also included are Contents Pages, List of Books and Journals Cited in References, Abbreviations Used, Note on Units of Measurement, Conversion Tables(Metric to British Units), Conversion Tables(British to Metric Units), [List of] Equivalents of Foreign, British, and Metric Units, Author Index(from Alewijn, W. F. to Yearwood, see Davies), and, finally, the Subject Index(from Absolute juice, brix of to Zig-zag crusher). Go as deep into the weeds as you desire, Reader, insofar as construction and maintenance engineering in the cane-sugar industry are concerned, circa the early-to-mid 1960's. Thank you very much!!
