Proche des Philosophes, ses observations astronomiques lui valent son élection à l'Académie des sciences en 1763 - Cet ouvrage s'apparente a la cosmogonie ; Il fit une suite sur l'Astronomie orientale parue en 1787.

He served as mayor of Paris from 1789 to 1791 but was guillotined during the Reign of Terror.
