Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. Inscribed by the Subject: Matthew P. Deady. Dark cloth beveled boards binding, gilt lettering to front. Very nice tissue-guarded engraved portrait of Deady. The book is a limited printing offprint of a chapter in the larger Bancroft work, used for (among other things) distribution by the subject person, as in this case. Retains the original pagination from pages 603-653. The book is sound and unmarked otherwise, except the from free endpaper is detached 1/2" from the gutter (page is present) and wants repair, the preliminary pages are acidic and fragile. Good-Good+ otherwise. Subject Deady has added a fine cursive, ink inscription to the blank before the title-page, "To Col. Benjamin Stark with the regards of M.P.D. -Xmas, 1890" Deady was an important figure in Oregon history, a member of the Legislature of the Oregon Territory, President of the University of Oregon Board of Regents, and was President of the Oregon Constitutional Convention, among other things. Recipient Benjamin Stark was an Oregon Sentator and notable creator of the city of Portland. This is a quite interesting bit of Oregon history. Inscribed by biographical subject, not by Bancroft.
