A comprehensive history of the manufacturing town in Cheshire most notable for its silk industry. Minimal rubbing & bumps to the boards with barely noticeable stain. A previous owner's bookplate on the front paste o/w VG indeed internally.

Library copy, with expected inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as mild cracking, inscriptions, inserts, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Ink stamp inscriptions to top and bottom textblock edges. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Gilt lettering is darkened. Book has a slight forward lean.

More pronounced to free endpapers and pastedowns. Pencil markings to front pastedown. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Minor wear marks to boards. Unclipped jacket. Panels and spine have light edge wear with tears and creases. Minor tanning to interior flaps, panels and spine. Jacket is in removable plastic cover.

Maroon cloth boards look very fresh, as does the crisp title lettering in gilt on the spine. On closer inspection there is a little sun fading but only to the very edge at the head of the spine. The pages are clean throughout the book, albeit there is a little mild foxing just to the page block edge. The dust jacket is not price clipped, although a little edge worn and chipped here and there. A little lightly soiled at the base of the front cover and the spine is a touch sun discoloured. In all a terrific copy of a rather scarce book.

A history of Macclesfield, commissioned by the Corporation of Macclesfield to mark the 700th anniversary of the granting of a Charter to the Borough, first published in 1961. Tracing the history of the town from its earliest settlement, bringing the medieval period vividly to life, recalling the eventful days of the Civil War, the panic caused by the arrival of Prince Charles' army in 1745 and the Chartist disturbances caused by the social upheaval of the industrial revolution.
