Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Project Report from the year 2012 in the subject Psychology - Learning Psychology, Intelligence Research, grade: A, University of Cambridge (Department of Experimental Psychology), course: Natural Sciences Tripos, language: English, abstract: The Generation-Recognition Theory and the Encoding Specificity Theory that both deliver a process description of human memory were both tested by the Cued Recall & Recognition test - a simplified form of experiments performed by Watkins and Tulving. The Cued Recall & Recognition test was performed on 42 subjects overall and the proportion of words that were recalled, but not recognised, was determined to be 0.27+/-0.19. Two different groups were allocated (unknown to the participants) on the basis of the stimulus sets used (stimulus set 1 or 2) to test the influence of the stimulus sets on obtaining the above results. We verified that our results were not likely to be due simply to the specific stimuli that were used but showing a more general effect given that we found t(40)_{0.05}=1.168 in a two tailed t-test, and, thus, retained H_{0}: ``There is no significant difference in the proportion of words recalled, but not recognised, between the two groups (due to the different stimulus sets used).'' The significant proportion of words being recalled but not recognised contradicts generation-recognition theory, but supports encoding specificity theory, which argues that retrieval is based on a congruence between how information was encoded (or studied) and how it is accessed at retrieval, hence memory is highly context-dependent and episodic in nature. …

Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. Neuware - Why do schools look the way they do Why did monasteries become centers of learning Why did universities emerge, and why is artificial intelligence now challenging educational institutions that have existed for centuries The Evolution of Learning traces the 5,000-year journey of human education, from tribal storytelling around campfires to the rise of AI-powered tutors capable of delivering personalized instruction at global scale. Along the way, it explores how every educational system was shaped by the technological, economic, and social realities of its time.Rather than treating schools, universities, homeschooling, and AI as competing ideologies, this book examines them as evolutionary adaptations to changing conditions. Readers will discover how oral cultures preserved knowledge before writing, how monasteries became civilization's information vaults, how the printing press transformed literacy, why industrial-age schools were designed for mass societies, and how digital technology is reshaping learning once again.Combining history, systems thinking, economics, and personal experience, this book asks a deeper question: not simply how people learn, but how civilizations transfer knowledge from one generation to the next.Whether you are a parent, teacher, homeschooler, student, lifelong learner, or simply curious about the future of education, The Evolution of Learning offers a clear and thought-provoking framework for understanding where education came from, where it is today, and where it may be headed next.…

Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. Neuware - What is really happening inside your brain when you remember, learn, feel, decide, or become aware of the world around you The Human Brain is a clear, research-grounded guide to the human nervous system and the processes that shape thought, behavior, memory, emotion, and experience.Across ten connected chapters, you will build a structured understanding of how the brain works - from neurons, synapses, and neurotransmitters to perception, learning, memory, motivation, decision-making, consciousness, and the sense of self.Inside, you'll explore: - How the brain and nervous system are organized- How neurons communicate through electrical and chemical signals- How perception and attention shape your experience of reality- How learning changes neural systems through plasticity- Why memory is reconstructive rather than a perfect recording- How emotion connects brain, body, context, and meaning- What dopamine really does in motivation, reward, and learning- How habits and decisions emerge from interacting brain systems- What science currently knows - and still debates - about consciousness- How the brain changes across development, adulthood, and agingRather than reducing the brain to isolated facts, catchy myths, or one-region-one-function explanations, this guide shows how cells, circuits, networks, the body, experience, and environment work together.Complex neuroscience is explained in accessible language without stripping away the evidence, context, uncertainty, or important scientific nuance behind it.One complete topic. Ten clear chapters. Understand how it really works. …
