Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu.

Tymnet was an international data communications network headquartered in San Jose, California that used virtual call packet switched technology and X.25, SNA/SDLC, ASCII and BSC interfaces to connect host computers (servers) at thousands of large companies, educational institutions, and government agencies. Users typically connected via dial-up connections or dedicated async connections. The business consisted of a large public network that supported dial-up users and a private network business that allowed government agencies and large companies (mostly banks and airlines) to build their own dedicated networks. The private networks were often connected via gateways to the public network to reach locations not on the private network. Tymnet was also connected to dozens of other public networks in the United States and internationally via X.25/X.75 gateways. …

Systems NetworkArchitecture is IBM's proprietary networking architecture created in1974. It is a complete protocol stack for interconnecting computers andtheir resources. SNA describes the protocol and is, in itself, notactually a program. The implementation of SNA takes the form of variouscommunications packages, most notably Virtual telecommunications accessmethod which is the mainframe package for SNA communications. SNA isstill used extensively in banks and other financial transactionnetworks, as well as in many government agencies. While IBM is stillproviding support for SNA, one of the primary pieces of hardware, the3745/3746 communications controller has been withdrawn from marketing bythe IBM Corporation. However, there are an estimated 20,000 of thesecontrollers installed and IBM continues to provide hardware maintenanceservice and micro code features to support users. A robust market ofsmaller companies continues to provide the 3745/3746, features, partsand service. VTAM is also supported by IBM, as is the IBM NetworkControl Program required by the 3745/3746 controllers.…

Etat : Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articlesavailable from Wikipedia or other free sources online. AdvancedPeer-to-Peer Networking (APPN) is an extension to the Systems NetworkArchitecture (SNA).APPN was meant to complement IBM's Systems NetworkArchitecture, a legacy from the mainframe era. It was designed as asimplification, but it turned out to be utterly complex, in particularin migration situations. APPN was originally meant to be a 'DECNETkiller', but DEC actually died before APPN was completed. Today, ofcourse, APPN has been completely superseded by TCP/IP (Internet). Notethat APPN has nothing to do with controversial peer-to-peer file sharingsoftware such as KaZaa or Napster. The designation peer-to-peer in thecase of APPN refers to its independence from a central point of controlunthinkable in today's networks but common in the mainframe era.…

Logical Unit 6.2is an IBM-originated communications protocol specification dating from1974, and is part of IBM's Systems Network Architecture. Adevice-independent SNA protocol, it is used for peer-to-peercommunications between two systems, for example, between a computer anda device (e.g. terminal or printer), or between computers. LU6.2 is usedby many of IBM's products, including Common Programming Interface forCommunications Intersystem Communications (CICS ISC), and InformationManagement System. Some examples of a non-IBM product which implementedthe SNA stack including LU6.2 are: Microsoft's Host Information Serverand Netware for SAA. APPC is the protocol used with LU6.2 architecture.…

Metaswitch Networks is a private UK-based company that designs, develops, manufactures, and markets telecommunications hardware and software solutions to communication service providers, equipment manufacturers and large enterprises. Metaswitch was founded in 1981 by seven former IBM employees led by Ian Ferguson, who remains on the board of directors. The company's earliest business areas included IBM Systems Network Architecture and retail point of sale systems. In the 1990s, the company began developing network protocol software. In 2000, the company launched the Metaswitch brand, which provided softswitches and network management systems designed to enable telephone service providers to migrate to Voice over IP networks while still supporting legacy telephone technologies. By 2008, the Metaswitch division was responsible for 78% of the company's revenue. …
