A collection of idylls and verses from Nicolas-Germain Leonard, a poet and one of Guadeloupe's first published writers, though he spent most of his life in France, travelling back and forth frequently. His fairly conventional poetry is most interesting today for its "astonishing evidence for the experience of living through revolutionary France during the months after the declaration of the republic and the trials against Louis XVI". With titles including: Le Bouquet, Le Ruban, Le Village Detruit, A Doris, Le Sacrifice de petits Enfans, and more. Bound in quarter calf with paper covered boards. Externally, sound with light rubbing resulting in minor loss to the extremities. Fading to the spine with cracks to the joints. The odd small mark to the boards with residue of a label to the front board. Hinges just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot and minor age toning to the extremities. Good. book.
