Paperback. Etat : Good. It looked like a scene from Beirut or Kabul: a long line of refugees, dusty, frightened, in shock, semi-lifeless. But it was not the Middle East-it was 57th Street in New York City, as the refugees escaped north, a few miles from Ground Zero. Some were members of our own congregation, who had escaped the Twin Towers from as high up as the 87th floor. And we, along with hundreds of churches, had the privilege of offering spiritual, emotional and physical help-the love of God. 9/11 changed the world. We now live with the daily threat of more terrorist attacks. Is there any hope in the midst of a seemingly endless war against terrorism? A Time for Hope will shock, anger and challenge you. It will also inform and strengthen you. Its theme is that God hates terrorism but loves terrorists and offers them forgiveness-just like the Apostle Paul God's power and grace can transform a man full of hate and murder into a man filled with love and compassion. Dave Epstein is the senior pastor of the historic Calvary Baptist Church in New York City and a former professor of Biblical Studies and History. He and his congregation experienced 9/11 firsthand and saw the healing power of God in action in the midst of the devastation. They learned that God is a God of love, hope, justice and peace-and that He really does identify with our pain and redeem our suffering. And God will do the same for you.…

Paperback. Etat : Good. In the last few years, issues related to human rights, including encouraging the democratization of Muslim societies from the Middle East to Southeast Asia, have acquired great importance in shaping the character of U.S.-Muslim relations and U.S. policy toward Muslim countries. An important impetus behind this development were the tragic events of 9/11, which demonstrated the destructive potential of militant groups that use a distorted interpretation of Islam as justification for their actions. These events also led to a greater realization by the United States--and the West--that a lack of democracy and lack of respect for human rights have been contributory factors to the rise of militant Islam. Consequently, in its approach toward the Muslim world, the United States has emphasized the themes of human rights and democracy. Within the Islamic world, too, both secular and moderate Islamists have begun focusing on issues related to human rights. Although many conservative Muslims believe that Islam is incompatible with Western notions of democracy and human rights, reformist Muslim thinkers and activists maintain that a proper reading of Islamic injunctions and the ethical values underpinning those injunctions shows there is no such incompatibility. Complicating the debate is the fact that many Muslims--secular as well as conservative and reformist--doubt the seriousness of the U.S. commitment to the cause of human rights and democracy in the Muslim world, believing that the United States applies human rights' standards selectively to suit its strategic and economic interests. Irrespective of the validity of these charges, they are part of the context of the U.S.-Muslim dialogue on human rights. And it is this complex dialogue that this volume seeks to advance.…

Paperback. Etat : Good. At a little past 9:00 p.m., on October 23, 2002, nineteen young women and twenty-two men bounded from minivans and sprinted through the front doors of the sprawling Dubrovka Theater Center in Moscow. Once inside, the troop hurriedly changed into their costumes and, following a well-rehearsed script, took their designated places for the evening?s dramatic finale. These people were not, however, actresses and actors starring in the hit musical Nord Ost, which was entertaining a sellout crowd of 711 spectators in the concert hall. They were Chechen Islamic terrorists-suicide hostage-takers who had come to Moscow to die and take their audience prey with them, unless the Russians immediately withdrew from Chechnya. The Dubrovka theater siege ushered in a new hostile escalation in the fanatical Islamist Chechens? ten-year fight against the Russian state. The "wolves of Islam" have adopted terror with maximum civilian casualties as its strategic weapon of choice, are employing the Palestinian model of suicide terror against civilians, and may be plotting with al Qaeda to conduct international terrorist operations abroad.  In Wolves of Islam Paul Murphy tells the story of the principal cast of characters. To drive Russia out of the North Caucasus, Chechen terrorists carry out horrific acts of unimaginable terror. Individually and collectively, they have led Chechnya down the road to chaos, political anarchy, economic ruin, and physical destruction, as they continue to prosecute their Islamic holy war.…

Hardback. Etat : Good. In blunt, provocative and deeply personal terms, this work unearths the troubling cornerstones of Islam as it is widely practised: tribal insularity, deep-seated anti-Semitism and an uncritical acceptance of the Koran as the final, and therefore superior, manifesto of God.

Paperback. Etat : Very Good. IN THIS BOK YOU WIL SE: -Radical Islam In Revelation -Early Protestant Views on Islam in Prophecy -Radical Islam Defeated -The Coming Conflict -What to Expect in the Future They came riding swiftly out of the desert wastelands directly into Bible Prophecy. They numbered as swarming locusts, were ferocious as lions, their turbans whipped in the wind and they were ready for war. These symbolic locusts had the faces of men, the hair of women and stings like scorpions. This book will show you that this seemingly abstract and dynamic prophecy denotes the rise of militant Islam in Revelation 9. Some of the most influential Christian leaders from the 1500's - 1800's believed radical Islam was a significant figure in Revelation's end-time prophecies. In this book you will see that Luther, Wesley, Newton, Foxe, and many others believed and taught militant Islam was the key figure in the explosive prophecies of Revelation 9. These thought leaders, professors, and founders of popular Christian denominations saw militant Islam was on a Collision Course with the Western world. Prepare to be shocked by their views and the implications for you today. The Bible predicts there will be three major conflicts between militant Islam and the Christian West. Two of these have happened already. The first was the Crusades. The fall of Constantinople (now the Islamic city of Istanbul) was part of the second major conflict. The next and final conflict is yet to come and will be like nothing this world has ever seen. Conditions in the world today indicate this final conflict is about to begin. Read this book. Be prepared.…

Hardback. Etat : Very Good. The fascinating story of Queen Elizabeth's secret outreach to the Muslim world, which set England on the path to empire, by The New York Times bestselling author of A History of the World in Twelve MapsWe think of England as a great power whose empire once stretched from India to the Americas, but when Elizabeth Tudor was crowned Queen, it was just a tiny and rebellious Protestant island on the fringes of Europe, confronting the combined power of the papacy and of Catholic Spain. Broke and under siege, the young queen sought to build new alliances with the great powers of the Muslim world. She sent an emissary to the Shah of Iran, wooed the king of Morocco, and entered into an unprecedented alliance with the Ottoman Sultan Murad I, with whom she shared a lively correspondence. The Sultan and the Queen tells the riveting and largely unknown story of the traders and adventurers who first went East to seek their fortunes--and reveals how Elizabeth's fruitful alignment with the Islamic world, financed by England's first joint stock companies, paved the way for its transformation into a global commercial empire.…

Paperback. Etat : Good. Muslim-Jewish relations in the United States, Israel, and Europe are tenuous. Jews and Muslims struggle to understand one another and know little about each other's traditions and beliefs. Firestone explains the remarkable similarities and profound differences between Judaism and Islam, the complex history of Jihad, the legal and religious positions of Jews in the world of Islam, how various expressions of Islam (Sunni, Shia, Sufi, Salafi, etc.) regard Jews, the range of Muslim views about Israel, and much more. He addresses these issues and others with candor and integrity, and he writes with language, symbols, and ideas that make sense to Jews. Exploring these subjects in today's vexed political climate is a delicate undertaking. Firestone draws on the research and writings of generations of Muslim, Jewish, and other scholars, as well as his own considerable expertise in this field. The book's tone is neither disparaging, apologetic, nor triumphal. Firestone provides many original sources in translation, as well as an appendix of additional key sources in context. Most importantly, this book is readable and reasoned, presenting to readers for the first time the complexity of Islam and its relationship toward Jews and Judaism.…

Hardback. Etat : Good. The story of Harun al-Rashid, the celebrated caliph from The Thousand and One Nights, who ruled the Islamic world when its power was at a peak in the late eighth and early ninth centuries and when the Arab world influenced Western Christian culture. The Caliph's Splendor is a revelation: a history of a civilization we barely know that had a profound effect on our own culture. While the West declined following the collapse of the Roman Empire, a new Arab civilization arose to the east, reaching an early peak in Baghdad under the caliph Harun al-Rashid. Harun is the legendary caliph of The Thousand and One Nights, but his actual court was nearly as magnificent as the fictional one. In The Caliph's Splendor, Benson Bobrick eloquently tells the little-known and remarkable story of Harun's rise to power and his rivalries with the neighboring Byzantines and the new Frankish kingdom under the leadership of Charlemagne. When Harun came to power, Islam stretched from the Atlantic to India. The Islamic empire was the mightiest on earth and the largest ever seen. Although Islam spread largely through war, its cultural achievements were immense. Harun's court at Baghdad outshone the independent Islamic emirate in Spain and all the courts of Europe, for that matter. In Baghdad, great works from Greece and Rome were preserved and studied, and new learning enhanced civilization. Over the following centuries Arab and Persian civilizations made a lasting impact on the West in astronomy, geometry, algebra (an Arabic word), medicine, and chemistry, among other fields of science. The alchemy (another Arabic word) of the Middle Ages originated with the Arabs. From engineering to jewelry to fashion to weaponry, Arab influences would shape life in the West, as they did in the fields of law, music, and literature. But for centuries Arabs and Byzantines contended fiercely on land and sea. Bobrick tells how Harun defeated attempts by the Byzantines to advance into Asia at his expense. He contemplated an alliance with the much weaker Charlemagne in order to contain the Byzantines, and in time Arabs and Byzantines reached an accommodation that permitted both to prosper. Harun's caliphate would weaken from within as his two sons quarreled and formed factions; eventually Arabs would give way to Turks in the Islamic empire. Empires rise, weaken, and fall, but during its golden age, the caliphate of Baghdad made a permanent contribution to civilization, as Benson Bobrick so splendidly reminds us.…
