His father, John Alva Haley, ran a hardware business and hotel in Midland, Texas. The Nita Stewart Haley Memorial Library and J. Evetts Haley History Center [1805 W. Indiana Avenue, Midland, Texas 79701] is a highly esteemed institution that serves an important purpose in facilitating the study of Southwestern Texas history. The Library houses more than 25,000 books, manuscripts and other printed material documenting western history.
