Early Printing (but not the first printing) of the First (1st) American Edition, with "1944" on both title and copyright pages, but no first edition statement. Near Fine condition. No Dust Jacket. Translated from the German by H. T. Lowe-Porter. The Text Block is clean, off-white showing some aging, tight, straight and square with deckled fore-edges and no markings of any kind. The Binding is full black cloth with both boards of uniform color and some sunning to spine where the gilt title, etc., have also faded. Corners are slightly bumped. See photos. 422 + i pages. 5 7/8" x 8 3/4". This is the fourth and last volume in the Joseph and his Brothers tetralogy by Mann. Originally published in Sweden, though in the German language, as Joseph, der Ernährer (1943), this was the first English language translation. NOTE: We also have Joseph in Egypt for sale.
