Stitched in original sugar paper wrappers, the name Sally Walker, Ashburnham, 1819 on upper cover. This printing is unrecorded on WorldCat, and the printers Ranlet & Norris only worked together for about two years. Justin Morgan, 1747-1798, was an American horse breeder, and composer, best known for his hymns and fuguing tunes. Asahel Benham published his Judgment Anthem in the Federal Harmony in 1790. It was the first anthem ever published in shapes, appearing in the first shapenote book, Little and Smith's Easy Instructor (1801). Shape notes are a musical notation designed to facilitate congregational and social singing. The notation, introduced in late 18th century England, became a popular teaching device in American singing schools. Shapes were added to the noteheads in written music to help singers find pitches within major and minor scales.…
