Ajouter au panierTaschenbuch. Etat : Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - In 'Lady Sybil's Choice: A Tale of the Crusades,' Emily Sarah Holt weaves an intricate narrative set against the backdrop of the tumultuous Crusades, exploring themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and the complexities of love. The novel marries historical facts with rich character development, presenting Lady Sybil as a strong yet vulnerable protagonist faced with harrowing decisions that will determine not only her fate but that of her family and her faith. Holt's elegant prose, characterized by vivid descriptions and emotional depth, immerses the reader in a world of medieval chivalry, conflict, and the often-unheard voices of women in historical narratives, offering a fresh perspective on this pivotal period in history. Emily Sarah Holt, a noted British author of the 19th century, had a profound interest in history, particularly the roles women played in shaping their narratives within it. Her extensive research and personal convictions drove her to create stories that challenge the traditional portrayals of women, allowing their strength and complexity to shine through. This focus on an unheralded protagonist like Lady Sybil reflects Holt's own commitment to advocating for women's voices in literature and history, drawing from her own experiences and societal observations. 'Lady Sybil's Choice' is a compelling read for anyone interested in historical fiction that champions a woman's perspective within a male-dominated era. Holt's deft narrative not only entertains but also enlightens, making this book essential for both history enthusiasts and lovers of richly woven literary tales. Readers are encouraged to embark on this journey alongside Lady Sybil, gazing into the heart of a crucial historical epoch through her eyes.

Ajouter au panierFirst American edition. Octavo. Brown cloth ornately stamped in black and gilt; vi, [3], 2-342 pp., [1] adverts. Although there is no date printed anywhere in the book, a contemporary ownership signature dated 1879 leads us to believe that the Robert Carter edition was the first American edition and published the same year as the English edition of J. F. Shaw. Robert Carter appears to have been Ms. Holt's American publisher, as an advert in the rear lists 11 of her other titles for sale. Emily Sarah Holt (1836-1893) was a Victorian Protestant and a prolific author of historical fiction. In Lady Sybil's Choice, Holt's female protagonist undergoes personal and religious transformation during the Crusades. A Very Good copy with some chipping to crown; corners bumped. We find no copies of the American first edition in commerce (2015) and only one copy held institutionally (University of Rochester). Scarce thus.
