Ajouter au panierHardcover. Quarto. Full tree calf binding with gilt lettering and ornamentation on paneled spine; hand-printed blue and white end papers. The text block is clean, and the leaves are printed on one side only. The volume presents a number of plates from an earlier dictionary of fine arts, which depict tools, techniques, and studio scenes for various categories of fine art. Condition: Good only. The binding shows minor fraying, scratches, and shelf wear consistent with age. Several plates are detached but present or damaged: "Composition et Expression" has been tipped in and then cut out with no damage to the plate. Plate 13 under Dessin [Drawing], "Jambes et Pieds," has been cut out and then tucked back into the book in its original place. Plate 1 under Sculpture en Bois [Sculpture in Wood], "Vignette, atelier du sculpteur en boise, et outils," has been removed and cut into three sections. As it originally depicted three separate images on a single page, only one of the three images was damaged in this process, but the printed title that accompanied the image has been lost. In addition, the final page of the table of contents has been removed and cut down slightly, but the page is tucked into the volume and there is no damage to the text. Two plates are absent from the book. Plate 8 under Gravure en taille-douce [Intaglio], "Gravure en manière de crayon," has been removed. Plate 38 under Dessin [Drawing], "Proportions de la Vénus de Médicis," is likewise absent. Dimensions 9.25 x 12 x 1.375 inches. 1327531. Shelved Dupont Bookstore.
