Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Good+. Limited Edition. 8vo. Pp. 386 followed by a bibliography of Hergesheimer's work and the colophon. Number 56 of 75 copies thus printed, numbered and signed. Printed on Shidzuoka japan vellum at the Plimpton Press. Silver silk bookmark. Bound in bright green japon paper with silver devices, lettering and rules on covers and spine. In the paper dust jacket and publisher's slipcase.Dust jacket worn at edges and folds, slipcase label entirely faded, and with the number 56 written in pen at the tail of spine, probably written by the publisher as it corresponds with this numbered copy. That said, the fragile binding has been well preserved by the slipcase and jacket, remains mostly unopened and appears as new. A particularly small limitation. Among the talented friends who circled around Alfred Knopf and H. L. Mencken, almost all had difficulties with alcohol, including F. Scott Fitzgerald, William Faulkner, James T. Farrell, Theodore Dreiser, Sinclair Lewis, Edgar Lee Masters and Joseph Hergesheimer, whose decision to stop writing, following this novel, willful or not, contributed to the decline of his once-proud literary reputation. Dust jacket is now housed in a clear, removable archival protector.
