Chronicle of an American family in Kentucky in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Coleman 2142. The author knew Kentucky history very well. This novel, about a Kentucky family from pioneer days through the late 1800's, incorporates many of Kentucky's well known historical figures. Much of the book focuses on the Civil War, and there, the author is quite knowledgeable, not only about the war itself, but also about the political climate in Kentucky during that period. And, of course, no novel touching on the Civil War, would be complete unless members of the same family found themselves on different sides of the conflict.
