Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Fair. 1st Edition. The box set is all there except for a two inch chip to the top panel, it is up to you if you want to tape or glue the pieces together. The wraparound text and illustration on three panels of box are all there but heavily speckled from surface wear. Volume Two the DJ is considerably frayed at both ends of spine (also a quarter inch chip on spine); the remainder of the DJ is actually quite nice despite the following imperfections: stain to front upper right corner, random rub marks on front and back on approximately 40% of the surface area. Edges are still crisp. The books themselves are VG+ with binding not as tight as one would desire but still square, no separation gaps, and attractive presentation. Some age-toning, very evenly of the text block, but rarely if ever thumbed through. DJ of volume two is identical situation except that the entire spine panel is missing and more creasing, plus dampstain, along large swath of top edge. Though the jackets are not appealing, it is difficult to find the books in better shape. Edition originale 1948. Book.

Addressed to noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates (1914-93). Near fine. Lovely note on "Library of Congress" letterhead in which Mearns informs this New York Civil War Round Table' office where to contact historian Josephine Cobb, most likely to review a book for the newsletter of which Gates served as long-time editor.
