A near fine copy with some foxing and offsetting to the front free end-paper. In the VERY RARE dustwrapper priced 7/6 net to the spine as called for. The dustwrapper is complete with some darkening to the spine and a couple of short, closed tears to the top edge of the back panel. The basis for the 1933 Paramount movie "The King of the Jungle" starring Larry "Buster" Crabble as Kapa, a feral man raised by African lions. The Author was one of the screen-writers along with Philip Wylie, the science fiction writer who reviewed it for the New York Times (February 25, 1933): "Endowed with a refreshing sense of humour lacking in other films of this type, "King of the Jungle" which is now on at the Paramount is an unusually good picture, one that will appeal to cinema patrons of all ages". In Bleiler and Reginald. NB: A bibliographical point - this, the UK first edition is the "true" first edition pre-dating its Frederick A Stokes counterpart by 12 months. Rare. Bleiler-listed fantasy, set in Africa, of an abandoned boy raised by lions. Preceded by a London edition the previous year, and followed by a sequel (Kaspa, the Lion Man ) in 1933. Bleiler gives both titles a "juvenile" designation, though we find little to suggest, in our own sampling of the narrative, that the intended audience is any more juvenile than one would expect given the genre.
