(B&W photographs) Musical comedy about shop workers who dislike each other in person but fall in love through their pen-pal correspondence, derived from the same play ("Parfumerie" by Miklós László) which was the source for Ernst Lubitsch's lovely 1940 film THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER. The frontispiece caricature drawing of the original Broadway cast (including Barbara Cook, Daniel Massey, Barbara Baxley, and Jack Cassidy) is by Al Hirschfeld. The original production ran for 301 performances between April 1963 and January 1964, and has been revived several times since, most notably in 2016.

Hirschhorn (b. 1940) spent decades as the film and theatre critic for the Sunday Express. His various histories of Hollywood include The Warner Bros. Story (1978) and The Hollywood Musical (1981). His ownership note is on the front pastedown, dated October 1988. She Loves Me opened at New York's Eugene O'Neill Theatre on 23 April 1963, directed by Harold Prince. Adapted from Miklos Laszlo's 1937 play Parfumerie, it won five Tony Awards and ran for 301 performances. The following year, Fiddler on the Roof premiered, for which Bock and Harnick created the music and lyrics. Octavo. Frontispiece line drawing by Hirschfeld, 6 photographic plates.
