Signed by Musial on half-title page, with Certified Authentication Service (CAS) sticker. Publisher's tan cloth, with spine lettered in red and blue; in its original white dust jacket, with color photo of Musial attributed to Ozzie Sweet to front panel, lettered in red and black. About fine book, with corners lightly bumped, and light offsetting to front and rear hinges; near fine unclipped dust jacket, with light toning to spine, a touch of wear to spine ends, and a small closed tear to bottom edge of front panel. Overall, a clean and pleasing copy. Stan "The Man" Musial is the greatest St. Louis Cardinal of all-time, spending his entire 22-year career with the team (1941 - 1944, 1946-1963), and one of the greatest hitters in MLB history. Early in his career, he helped form a dynasty in St. Louis alongside Enos Slaughter and led the team to three World Series titles in five years (1942, 1944, 1946). Some of his career highlights include 24 All-Star game selections (tied for second all-time), 3 NL MVP awards, and 7 NL batting titles. An exceptional player from the beginning to the end, he batted .330 in 1962 when he was a 41-year-old grandfather, falling just 16 points shy of the NL batting title. Summing up Musial's impact on the sport, Bob Costas said, "He didn't hit a homer in his last at-bat.He didn't hit in 56 straight games All Musial represents is more than two decades of sustained excellence and complete decency as a human being." He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011. Signed by Author.

The inscription reads To Frank Best Wishes from your friend Stan Musial. Stanley Frank Musial (born Stanislaw Franciszek Musial; November 21, 1920 January 19, 2013), nicknamed "Stan the Man", was an American professional baseball player. Musial spent 22 seasons as an outfielder and first baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB), playing for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1941 to 1944 and from 1946 to 1963. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969. Over his career, Musial batted .331 and set National League (NL) records for career hits (3,630) (1,815 each at home and on the road), runs batted in (1,951), games played (3,026), at bats (10,972), runs scored (1,949) and doubles (725). A seven-time batting champion, he was named the National League's (NL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) three times and was on three World Series championship teams. When he retired, he held or shared 17 major league records and 29 National League records. He shares the major league record for the most All-Star Games played (24) with Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. Musial was selected for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999. In 2011, President Barack Obama presented Musial with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Robert William Patrick Broeg (March 18, 1918 October 28, 2005) was an American sportswriter and newspaper editor who covered the St. Louis Cardinals for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for forty years. After the war, Broeg joined the St. Louis Star-Times[3] and then the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in 1945. He was reportedly the most prolific writer in the history of the Post-Dispatch. He penned his final Post-Dispatch column in 2004. he helped Bob Gibson win the 1967 World Series. Gibson was unable to get breakfast at the Cardinals' hotel in Boston, so Broeg delivered a ham and egg sandwich. Gibson pitched a complete, winning game. Broeg is known for coining the nickname "Stan the Man" for Cardinal baseball player Stan Musial, working on the Hall of Fame causes of Cardinals Red Schoendienst, Enos Slaughter and Chick Hafey and helping to devise, and successfully push for the first pension plan for veteran major-league players. Broeg published 20 books on sports. He also wrote a column for The Sporting News for decades. Broeg said he wished his epitaph to read, "Hopefully, he was fair, as in just, not as in mediocre." Bob Broeg died several days after the final game of the 2005 World Series. Autobiography written by Stan Musial as told to Bob Broeg of the St Louis Post-Dispatch in 1965. In these pages Stan tells of the tough early days of the minor leagues, when he was supporting a wife and baby and working winters in his home town, Donora, Pennsylvania. He describes his spectacular rise to the Majors, and peppers the story of his career with anecdotes of the great players, managers, owners, and teams. First Edition [stated]. Presumed first printing.
