Etat : Good. 1st Edition. folio (34 x 26 cms.,13 x 10 inches, approx); title and contents pages; then 6 large, uncoloured folding maps (each 66 x 69 cms, 26 x 27 inches, approx.); hardback: original blind-stamped binder's cloth, with gilt lettered spine; spine worn at top, and sunned, covers rubbed and faded, internally, the front joint is broken after the endpaper (both endpapers are sound); each map has 2 holes or tears to central folds, mostly small, but a couple are larger, and there are a couple of short marginal tears, and some light browning to surfaces, but otherwise the finely detailed engraved maps are in good, clean condition. The maps were drawn by F.A. Carrington; The Hills by G.W. Carrington; Engraved by I. Dower; Etched by T. Harwood. The scale is five miles to an inch. The maps were designed to be put together as a large wall map. Published as a supplementary volume to Lewis' Topographical Dictionary of Scotland, but sold separately at the time, apparently.
