The set is uniformly bound in original green cloth with a white paper label on each spine and front cover. Light cover soil. Several small brown spots on the front cover of CLOSED SHUTTERS. No owner's name or bookplate. There is a frontispiece by Joseph Pennell in each volume. Endpaper and cover label art is by Edward C. Caswell. "This tetralogy of romances picturing life in Old New Orleans is patterned after Edith Wharton's OLD NEW YORK. WIDOWS ONLY has for its background Creole life in the sixties. STRIFE pictures the carpet-baggers of the seventies. CLOSED SHUTTERS, set in the eighties, is a drama dealing with the life of two proud but improvident aristocrats.
