Please find on offer here a vintage book, the First American Edition of: Metaphysics or the Philosophy of Consciousness Phenomenal and Real, by Henry Longueville Mansel. The Very Reverend Henry Longueville Mansel was an English philosopher and ecclesiastic. At the time of the publication of this book (in its First Edition in the U.K., 1860), he was the Wayneflete Professor of Moral and Metaphysical Philosophy and Fellow of St. John s College, Oxford. There is a relatively short biographical sketch about him on Wikipedia. This small hard cover book (5 ¼ x 8 inches, 358 pages plus 2 pages of publisher s adverts) was published by D. Appleton and Company of New York, dated 1871 and the First American Edition. Our Author died that same year, at the young age of 51! The book is bound in burnt orange cloth with gilt titles on the spine. Condition: This book is in very good condition albeit not without issues. The top of the spine of the hard cover has a small split along the title, about two inches which I believe could be easily repaired. The corners and spine tips are also bumped and bruised. Inside, a former owner has left his bookplates on the front endpaper which also has a small water stain in the upper left-hand corner and a partially erased price on the upper right-hand corner. The interior pages show some very light toning and a few light examples of foxing, neither of which really penetrate the text. The front hinge is cracked, apparently repaired, the rear intact and the binding tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
