Due parti in un vol. in-8° (20,2 cm x 12 cm). Pp. (2), XII, LII (fino a p. 52 le pp. sono numerate in numeri romani), poi da 53 a 235, (1). Segnatura: [p]2, )(6, A-O8, P2, Q4. Solida cartonatura rigida coeva, autore e titolo dorati su tassello sul dorso. Bella e curiosa nota d' acquisto antica al recto della carta bianca d' apertura: "Torino, 14 Novembre 1881 £ 1.20". Una minima uniforme e fisiologica arrossatura dovuta alla carta tedesca, peraltro esemplare in stato di conservazione molto buono. Prima edizione di questa che è l' ultima più ampia e dettagliata esposizione dell' etica e della morale kantiana, quest' ultima fu sviluppata nella "Fondazione della Metafisica e dei Costumi" e nella "Critica della ragion pratica", ma solo nella "Metafisica dei costumi" Kant descrive i punti di vista in base ai quali l' azione umana può essere descritta come una vita moralmente buona. Composta da due parti pubblicate separatamente intitolate "Principi metafisici della dottrina del diritto" e "Principi metafisici della dottrina della virtù", Kant vi esplora i principi fondamentali della morale, del diritto e della virtù, fondandoli sulla ragione e sulla libertà dell' individuo. Si occupa degli standard interni, puramente soggettivi, che caratterizzano l' azione come moralmente valida per il soggetto stesso, sono validi solo i fini che una persona si prefigge. Sebbene però la sua teoria della virtù sia passata in gran parte inosservata al momento della sua pubblicazione, centrale è il suo nuovo e rivoluzionario concetto di virtù, l' idea di doveri verso gli altri e verso se stessi, una discussione sui doveri dell' amore nonché sul rispetto e sulla dignità. La sua teoria del diritto è un contributo fondamentale alla moderna filosofia politica e giuridica. Kant sviluppa infatti una teoria (metafisica) indipendente dall' esperienza riguardante i principi normativi del diritto e dello Stato. Kant inizia il suo ragionamento con un diritto umano innato e inalienabile e passa poi alle istituzioni della proprietà e allo stato di diritto, si occupa delle azioni moralmente richieste nelle relazioni esterne tra le persone che si riflettono nel diritto positivo in cui nei fini prefissati si devono tenere in considerazione anche gli interessi delle altre persone, distinguendo tra dovere legale e dovere virtuoso. E considerata la sintesi della filosofia del diritto di Kant e viene utilizzata dagli studiosi del filosofo come base per la presentazione e l' interpretazione del pensiero di Kant su ciò che è giusto e ciò che è sbagliato. Führer für das Ostland" sowie ein lettischer Stempel: "Satversme Sapulces Biblioteka" (Bibliothek der Verfassungs Versammlung) das heisst dieses Werk wurde als Grundlage bei der Erstellung der ersten lettischen Verfassung der ersten Lettischen Republik um 1920 genutzt!!, alter Stempel auf hinteren Innndeckel "LNB Atlauts Pardot" (Verkauf erlaubt, von der lettischen Nationalbibliothek) diese Ausgabe ist nicht als Dritte Auflage gekennzeichnet, bis auf den Passus: "Vorrede der ersten Ausgabe" und den zusätzlichen Abschnitt "Anhang erläuternder Bemerkungen zu den metaphysischen Anfangsgründen der Rechtslehre" ist dies ein identischer Abdruck der Erstausgabe von 1797 welche ebenfalls bei Friedrich Nicolovius in Königsberg erschienen ist. Diese Ausgabe erschien noch zu Lebzeiten von Kant!
