Black hardback binding with red titles to front boards and spine, some rubbing to spine-junctions. A 3cm split to top rear hinge, wear with some rubbing to spine-ends and boards' corners. Light wear to edges, binding is strained and cracked 2mm at rear page showing cloth and causing a wobble. Biinding is cracked showing cloth 2mm at page 32. Page-edges are darkened with age, page-margins are yellowed giving text a yellow appearance. Undated - estimate early 2oth century a little later.

Wear to cover and spine, Corners bumped and edges worn, Cover and spine a little grubby, Internally in reasonable / good condition, except for the first page and inside of the cover, large section of front end page missing and the surface of the inside of the cover along the spine, i think it was caused by some sort of insect, no trace of any living in the book now. There are no other traces of damage inside the book except for inside the back cover, on the surface next to the spine, but here is much less, There is some slight foxing throughout the book , There are also a few pages that are partially detached pages 83 - 94, 10cm from bottom on a couple 2cm on most.

An uncommon novel in all contemporary English language editions, Jokai's work was first published in the original Hungarian in 1852, but not translated into English until 1894.The novel depicts intricate conspiracies involving noble families amid the tumultuous political landscape of seventeenth century Transylvania.Published prior to the 1940s, this copy has had the original title page removed, and has been rebound in paper wraps by "Everybody"s Rebound", run by the publishers Everybody"s Books.To the front wrap, they explain 'This is a rebound copy of a book worth reading published by a well-known publisher. We are rebinding books such as this in order that as many books as possible may do their job twice and so help the vital "Save Paper" Campaign'. In the publisher's original paper wraps. With the title stamped to the title page head and back strip, by the publisher. Back strip lightly age toned, with light edgewear to back strip head. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age toned due to paper type, but clean. Very Good. book.
