Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Good. No Jacket. A. Costa (Photographer) (illustrateur). 1st Edition. First Edition 1966 by two brilliant writers one is from the eccentric Sitwell family. While Norwich and Sitwell are responsible for the two parts of the book the history and the monasteries and villages their photographer companion Costa, has added thirty-two pages of photographs in full color and as many black and white. Mount Athos is a Republic of Monks. It has been a republic with its own government for over a thousand years. There are NO Women allowed! What they do have are the great orthodox monasteries; seventeen of which are Greek, one Russian, one Serbian and one Bulgarian set in the slopes of this very beautiful mountain on a penisula. The Russian Footprint has remained strong through Panteleimon; a Russian Orthodox monastery built on the southwest side of the peninsula of Mt. Athos in Greece. In one of my pics 5&6 you see the white & pink Panteleimon exterior and a rich gallery of pictures of the Romanov family inside. TODAY, Russia can freely exchange rubles for Euros in ATHOS. It is their secret bank in Europe! 191 pp.

Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. A. Costa (illustrateur). 1st Edition. First edition. Photographic illustrations, by A. Costa and the two authors. 4to. Publisher's cloth, very good, map endpapers, with beautiful images throughout, some in colour, slight lean to the spine, shelf-wear very light, dustwrapper with some small closed tears, some discreet tape repairs, usual edge-wear and very minimal loss, bright, and protected in a plastic sleeve, flat-signed by JJN to the title page. A particularly good example of this excellent book - the two authors gained access to the secretive peninsular in northern Greece and its Orthodox monastic complexes, taking some remarkable images.
