Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. Neuware - Paul Howard's Captivity And Why He Escaped: Founded On Fact is a book written by Emilia Marryat Norris in 1876. The book tells the story of Paul Howard, a young man who was captured by Native Americans during the early days of the American frontier. The book is based on true events and is a his…torical account of Paul's experiences during his captivity and his eventual escape. The book provides a detailed description of Paul's life with the Native Americans, including their customs, beliefs, and way of life. It also explores the relationships between Paul and his captors, as well as his attempts to escape and his eventual success. The book is a fascinating account of a young man's struggle to survive in a hostile environment and his determination to regain his freedom. Emilia Marryat Norris was a popular author during the 19th century, known for her historical novels and her ability to weave fact and fiction together. In Paul Howard's Captivity And Why He Escaped: Founded On Fact, she draws on her own experiences of living on the American frontier to create a vivid and engaging account of Paul's story. The book is a must-read for anyone interested in American history, Native American culture, or the struggles of early settlers in the United States. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work. Downard, E N (illustrateur).

Rare, Fine copy of the First Edition of the last book published by this famous prolific author of children's books and one unusually including her married name of Norris. Firm, square binding and nothing loose or shaken. Clean end-papers with no inscription. Highly unusual immaculate clean condition throughout. 128 pages of easy to read, larger than normal print with symmetrically designed chapter heads and fine engraved vignettes at chapter ends. Downard), one dramatically depicting a baby falling from a ship.32 page catalogue of books to rear listing the publisher's 'Original Juvenile Library' (a fabulous piece of social history in itself). Emilia Marryat (1835-1875) was the third daughter of the famous author of nautical fiction, Captain Frederick Marryat (eg. Mr Midshipman Easy) and was born in Devonport, Plymouth. Emilia's sister Florence wrote more sensational novels such as Blood of the Vampire (1897). Emilia died young at 44 years and this work, her last, was published posthumously with a touching note by her sister Augusta: 'Since these pages were written, but before they could go to press, the kind hand that penned them. lay at rest'. The boys and girls with whom she shared both joys and sorrows should now receive the book as a legacy from one who loved you. The story is a true one - with name changes - and describes a young Paul Howard who travels to Taiwan (Formosa), learns watchmaking and is abducted by pirates. On the final page the author states that Paul Howard is now one of the leading merchants in China. E. N. Downard (illustrateur).
