Jenks was an American economist and important governmental advisor. He was appointed by President Theodore Roosevelt as an expert in Asia for the U.S. Treasury Department in 1899. He represented the US in financial matters in the near east and later served on the U.S. Commission on International Exchange. Jenks is best known for his work on U.S. immigration and his advocacy of relatively less exclusion of immigrants from Asian countries.
