Ajouter au panierPaperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is an elegant and eloquent compilation of verse by a poet who neither shies away from life's difficulties nor disparages the simple joys of existence. Organized into three distinct parts, the author explores the full range of human emotion and experience. From the moonlit reverie on the human condition through the witty social commentary of "Pretence," the depth of poetic expression in this book illuminates the concerns of everyday life with the philosophical scope of the ages. Within the literary and historical context of the time, the poet is both a keen observer of society and a skilled practitioner of the poetic form. The author's insights on pretension and the human condition are insightful and thought-provoking, making this book a valuable addition to the thoughtful reader's collection. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Ajouter au panierLeather bound. Etat : Very good. First Edition. A collection of poems by a British man of leisure (John Kenyon was born in Jamaica, where his father owned sugar plantations and kept workers in bondage, but he lived most of his life in England). He provided financial support to Samuel Taylor Coleridge, introduced Robert Browning to Elizabeth Barrett, and supported literary and cultural programs. This is his second book of poems. Rather uncommon. First edition (first printing). Light wear to the corners, else very good in later 19th-century full pebbled morocco with all edges gilt (binding by P. Low of Boston). This copy is inscribed by the author, "To Mrs. Paige from her friend the Author. London 1839." The recipient seems likely to be Harriette Story Paige, who accompanied Daniel Webster on a tour of England in 1839, where Kenyon paid special attention to them. Paige's diary of the trip was published as "Daniel Webster in England" in 1917.
