Ajouter au panierHardcover. Early Printing. 5.75 x 8.25in. xiv. 399pp. Publisher's cloth boards. Signed and inscribed by the author on the front endpaper: 'To my young colleagues to whom the future of psychoanalysis is entrusted, with my love and a memento: 'Psychoanalysis has been able to explore a dark region of the soul that always has been and probably [will] always remain inaccessible to more objective study. Vol. 1 XI.' Helene Deutsch. February 1966, Cambridge.' Here the pioneering psychoanalyst and feminist movingly inscribes her most seminal work, the first comprehensive text about the psychology of women by a woman, to a young colleague (or colleagues) during her last years in Cambridge after ceasing private practice. Largely as a consequence of the controversial and widespread dissemination of 'Psychology of Women' (published separately in two volumes a year apart) Deutsch's rightfully titanic reputation was greatly diminished by feminist critics of the time who accused her of misogyny via the influence of her teacher, Freud. In the essential epilogue to his biography of Deutsch, dedicated solely to 'Psychology of Women,' Paul Roazen states 'it has not as yet become widely known how distinctively her own, and unlike Freud's, Helene's approach was.' He further notes that no matter what 'a subsequent generation were to think, Simone de Beauvoir's 'The Second Sex' treated Helen's books with the utmost respect.' An extraordinary signed copy of the most lauded work by the greatest female psychoanalyst of the 20th Century. VERY GOOD in Very Good dust jacket protected in a removable archival cover. The book itself shows a slight hint of shelf rubbing at the corners and bottom edge, spine lightly tanned, otherwise the binding is strong and tight, the text is clean and unmarked, and the boards remain bright and distinct. The dust jacket shows marginal chipping along the edges, a crease of the front panel, otherwise remains bright, colorful, and distinct. As pictured.
