12mo, engraved title leaf, two inserted folded plates with designs by Robert Cruikshank and the author, two inserted leaves with four pages of engraved sheet music, publisher's gray green cloth with printed paper label affixed to the spine panel. First edition, first printing. The ten colored designs are on the two folded plates… and in this copy, like those in most copies of the first printing, they are not colored. "From 1827 until his death in 1832, Smith edited an astrological almanac, entitled THE PROPHETIC MESSENGER . Smith died on 26 February 1832 in London. His almanac continued to be edited as RAPHAEL'S EPHEMERIS and would become a standard work in British and American astrology. RAPHAEL'S EPHEMERIS popularized the system of Placidian system of astrological houses in the English-speaking world and in modern western astrology in general. Spine lean, some wear to cloth at spine ends and corner tips, a very good copy. The first printing is uncommon. (#172183).
