Scuffing to boards and losses to binding and title label on spine. Text block itself remains in good condition with light wear. Small assortment of markings at front, along with American Bible Union bookplate on front pastedown. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce work on the connection between religion, science, education, and more. Includes an American Bible Union presentation bookplate signed by Spencer Houghton Cone (1785-1855). A brief actor who later turned to ministry and newspaper management, Cone became a successful Baptist preacher later in life, and served as Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives from 1815 to 1816. He later served as the first president of the American Bible Union upon its formation, and remained at the post until his death. Written by Thomas Smith Grimke (1786-1834), an American author and orator who was the brother of The Grimke Sisters. A wonderful piece for restoration.
