Includes an American Bible Union presentation bookplate signed by Spencer Houghton Cone (1785-1855). A brief actor who later turned to ministry and newspaper management, Cone became a successful Baptist preacher later in life, and served as Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives from 1815 to 1816. He later served as the first president of the American Bible Union upon its formation, and remained at the post until his death. Written by Thomas Smith Grimke (1786-1834), an American author and orator who was the brother of The Grimke Sisters. A wonderful piece for restoration.
